Students really got into sorting the worms on the blue tarp. They made mounds of the vermicompost from the bin and let the sun shine on it. The worms would move down into the piles to get away from the sun. Scraping away the top layers of vermicompost exposed the worms again, causing them to move further into the piles. Eventually the piles were masses of worms that were weighed and distributed to the shredded paper-filled buckets that would become their new homes.
